Back in the early days of the web, long before Web2.0® there was Geocities free web hosting. You had to write everything the hard way in html and you only got a few megabytes of storage. It’s limped along since being acquired by Yahoo! but now they are finally closing it. A great pity as peoples’ early web masterpieces will now vanish. Despite the space limitation, you could have multiple accounts per Yahoo ID by registering each of the different international accounts (uk, ca, fr, as, au…).
Even worse, they removed ftp access so it’s a pain in the ass to get your old material off there (unless you have a backup)!
Good news is that you can retrieve all your old sites with WGET.
I’m using the wget option but you need to limit the rate otherwise the site will give you “Error 503 – over capacity”.
wget --limit-rate=5k -m -w 2 http://uk.geocities.com/yoursitenamehere
is working for me.
-m = mirror site
-w 2 = wait 2 seconds between each get
–limit-rate=5k = limit bandwidth to 5k
Good luck!

Impatient me wanted a 3G router so I can create a mobile Wi-Fi for various devices when I’m out and about.
My first choice was the Netgear MBR624GU but I needed one by yesterday and was unable to find one in stock anywhe
The alternative was the Solwise NET-3G-3GWIFIMRD. This looked like a fairly anonymous no-brand badged up and as it supported my 3G dongle I decided to give it a go. Solwise were very efficient with their order and delivery process and the item was delivered to my place of work the next morning.

I hate intrusive advertising as I surf web pages, particularly the Flash ones. I’ve found three easy ways to remove nearly all of these annoyances.

Some stats and a few theories.
Since I had my O2 broadband activated I’ve been carefully monitoring the bandwidth and S/N margins. S/N margins are definitely better during the day and then go down to around 6.5dB at night. » Read more: O2 Broadband Connection

Two running. 40 days to decide the winner. Here are speed tests:

O2 Broadband. 16 Meg service.

Virgin Media. 10 Meg service.
Speed tests are a bit variable on O2 but time will tell. Much better in the upload direction but pings take longer.

Google Maps allows you to search by specifying co-ordinates in latitude and longitude, however I was unable to find details in their online help.
After some experimenting I’ve come up with the following formats which are accepted.

It’s getting a bit repetitive sending you all those links so I’ll leave ‘em here for you
And most important of all, the one that caused us a few hours of stress today – download the
NORTON REMOVAL TOOL
If I find any more I’ll add them to the list. Enjoy

I was fascinated to see the folks over at Notts Indymedia had used morse code in their logo.
Nice to know it ain’t dead yet. If you’d like it in MP3 or Ogg Vorbis at 20wpm I’d be happy to oblige
See you on the bands.

OK.
After yesterday’s installation and testing of the WordPress engine I can now start adding content to the site. I’ve chosen a suitable theme, Silverlight, however the sidebar doesn’t quite work as expected (I can figure that out as I go).
There is lots of clever Web2.0 stuff out there to filter in and out content from elsewhere. Mashup is the key word. Yahoo! Pipes is one such gadget that I have implemented to take RSS feeds from sites I post on such as Flickr, StumbleUpon and Del.icio.us.
Making sense yet? No? Go Google web2.0 then.
I’ll even add some original content when I’m feeling creative enough.
